George first saw Cream April 12, 1968 on the first night of a three night stand at the Electric Factory. Harry (Maz) Maslin, the Factory's live sound mixer, had to pick up the band in the Factory's paisley painted limo at the airport. As soon as Cream were in the limo, Ginger Baker proceeded to tap Harry on the shoulder and as Harry turned around to acknowledge him, Ginger's words were, "I need speed'.
As George remembers this 'first' night, Cream went on late (perhaps due to Ginger's request) and the opening act, Woody's Truck Stop played two sets in a row. The second show for the evening was cancelled and Cream played an extended set that was mind blowing!
